Al-Nakba (meaning “catastrophe” or “disaster” in Arabic) refers to the forced expulsion and theft of land of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians which coincides with the establishment of the Israeli state in 1948. The occupation of Palestinian land destroyed hundreds of towns and forced thousands of people to flee or become displaced within occupied territories.
